Approval

Columbia West College is licensed to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. This means compliance with the minimum state standards and does not imply an endorsement or any recommendation by the state. This college is not a public institution. CWC is owned by Dr. Samuel N. Lee as a sole proprietorship. CWC is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to accept international students (F-1 student visas) and to issue I-20’s through the U.S. government SEVIS system.

Mission

Columbia West Colleges offers English as a second language to those in the community who need it to improve their standing for entrance into an accredited or approved college or university where English is the primary instructional language. Columbia West College also enrolls students who want to improve their English skills for greater independence in American society. In order to fulfill this mission, CWC offers the following programs:

Institutional Objectives

CWC will produce graduates who:

  1. Demonstrate a proficiency in English to qualify them for admission to American institutions of higher learning that are either accredited or approved to offer degrees and diplomas.
  2. Function with academic proficiency in future studies using the English language.
  3. Contribute to American society with greater English proficiency and thus improve their lives in meaningful ways.

CWC encourages all students seeking admission to American colleges or universities in either graduate or undergraduate programs to seek admission to its programs.

Statement of Ownership

Columbia West College is owned and operated by Dr. Samuel N. Lee as a sole proprietorship under a d.b.a. filed with the Los Angeles County Recorder.

Facilities

CWC is located at 3350 Wilshire Blvd., Suites 800-835, Los Angeles. The instituition is located in a 13-story office building with parking on site. The facility is on the 8th floor and occupies approximately 13,000 square feet. Four elevators provide access to the parking facility and the 8th floor. The institution has twelve classrooms, two administrative offices, a registrar’s office, and a library, a computer room, lobby/teachers’ and students’ lounge area. Class size is limited with an average of about 8-12 students with one instructor. Each classroom is equipped with either individual student desks or tables with chairs for student comfort.

CWC is located within 3 miles of the Los Angeles Public Library. This library is accessible to all CWC students and it houses approximately 1 million volumes. The library also provides modern access to Internet resources. Additionally, the Los Angeles County Museum of Contemporary Art, the La Brea Tar Pits, the Page Museum, and various other museums located in LA’s famous “Museum Row” are within a 15-minute bus ride from CWC.

CWC does not provide housing for its students but Los Angeles contains ample opportunities for students to secure housing within a convenient distance of the school. CWC provides prospective students with housing leads in the community.

Statement of Visa Services

CWC is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. For students who wish to enroll at CWC under this status, please contact the school for information and forms needed to accomplish this. As per state requirements, CWC is required to inform all potential nonimmigrant alien students of any charges.
